3 best anime to watch for Thanksgiving 2024
By Diana Nosa
Today's the special time of the year when we carve out an entire day to do nothing but sit back, relax, and eat our body weight in yummy foods and drinks. Yes, that's right! It's finally Thanksgiving Day!
Between family members running around the house and the kitchen stacked to the brim with different people cooking different dishes, this day is usually as chaotic as they come. That's why, when you do find a moment of peace, we want to ensure you are capitalizing on this breath of relief as much as you can by streaming an anime show that is best suited for a day like this one. What's more, anime shows are best when you and your family don't know what to watch while the food's burning on the fire. It's a win-win for everyone!
Without further ado, here are the three best anime shows that we think will pair nicely with your Thanksgiving meal.
Best food anime shows of all time
Kicking off with one of the greatest food anime shows we have with us today, we begin with none other than Food Wars!
Food Wars (2015)
Where to stream: Crunchyroll
Food Wars does a stellar job at showcasing foods from all over the world, as the cast of the iconic anime series is as diverse as they come. Be it a dish that hails from the most rural parts of Asia or a dish that is highly revered in European countries, Food Wars highlights them all, meaning, with this anime, you take a trip around the world from the very leisure of your own couch.
Another aspect we love about Food Wars for Thanksgiving is that endless feeling of competitiveness. Sure, you and your family are not hosting a competition for dinner. But there are times when it feels like the person who gets the most "oohs" and "aahs" for their dish is the person who "won" Thanksgiving.
Perhaps this show will inspire you to go all out for a new dish or maybe even make the same dish your aunt is making but better. We sure hope it does!
Flavors of Youth (2018)
Where to stream: Netflix
Flavors of Youth, specifically the "Rice Noodles" segment of the 2018 film, highlights that while food can bring us together, sometimes, especially if we're not careful, it can tear us apart just as fast.
The film highlights that when food and business combine, the love of cuisine and making food for others can be lost along the way. People become greedy or overwhelmed by the many highs and lows that come with having a business; some people are just plain jealous of others' success. Either way, the passion that was initially at the forefront of food-making has become nothing more than an afterthought. However, Flavors of Youth shows us that it doesn't have to be this way.
Since the beginning of time, food has always been at the center of every gathering. Without it, some of us may never have sweet memories that we have with our loved ones. This is all the more reason why the Netflix film shows that we have to continue to use food as the glue that holds us together rather than the wedge that drives us apart.
Delicious in Dungeon (2024)
Where to stream: Netflix
If Food Wars shows us how food can be used as an exploration tool and Flavors of Youth depicts how food can be used as a glue, then Delicious in Dungeon is in charge of highlighting how food can be used as a creative tool similar to that of a pen or a crayon.
Many times throughout the anime, we've seen how the main cook, Senshi, has to make something from absolutely nothing. After all, a cursed dungeon only has but so many ingredients for food that is actually something that others are used to. Even so, Senshi always found a way to take the most abnormal components and turn them into a masterpiece.
The same way an artist takes a blank canvas and creates things bigger than life is the same way you can take a blank plate and put the most delicious, creative food known to man.
We hope that you find something that fits your fancy for Thanksgiving. There's only way find out!
