Returning after a hiatus beginning in the spring of 2024, ComicBook.com confirms that iconic Dark Fantasy manga series Berserk will be returning with two new chapters this fall. Young Animal, the magazine that has published Berserk since 1992 has announced that chapter 377 of the manga series will be released in Japan October 25 and chapter 378 will be released several weeks later on November 8. English release dates have not yet been announced.

The news has also been shared on social media:

Since debuting in 1989, Berserk has become one of the most popular, recognizable and best-selling Fantasy manga series in history, for its striking visual design, intense action and dark, mature themes and storylines. However, the series has been frequently delayed by long hiatuses over the course of its run. Most significantly and tragically, the series's future was put into doubt when Berserk's original creator Kentaro Miura died suddenly in 2021 at the age of 54.

Ultimately, the series's production was taken over by Miura's friend Kouji Mori as writer, with illustrations being completed by Studio Gaga, composed of a group of Miura's former assistants. Although still affected by frequent hiatuses, production of the Berserk manga has continued under the leadership of this new team. As of this writing, there has been no announcement of plans to conclude the manga in the near future.

Berserk has been adapted into several anime series

In addition to the long-running original manga series, Berserk has received several anime adaptations, as well as a handful of video games. While the 2010s anime series based on BerserkBerserk: The Golden Age Arc (originally a movie trilogy, later recut into an anime series) and the 2016 adaptation simply titled Berserk — have been divisive with the fanbase, the 1997 Berserk anime series became an instant classic. While the 1997 series was not easily available on streaming or home media for a while, that has recently changed.

Earlier in 2024, Discotek Media re-released the 1997 Berserk anime series on Blu-ray. Featuring a soundtrack by Japanese experimental musician Susumu Hirasawa, most notably the legendary piece "Forces", the series adapts part of the manga Black Swordsman Arc (chapters 1-8 of the manga) as a prologue, with the bulk of the series covering the Golden Age Arc (volumes 9-94), culminating with the events of the Eclipse, one of the darkest and most disturbing but most important events in the plot.

The trailer for the Blu-ray release of the 1997 Berserk anime can be seen here:

Multiple anime adaptations, including the 1997 and 2016 Berserk anime series, as well as Berserk: The Golden Age Arc - Memorial Edition are available for fans to purchase via the Crunchyroll Store, along with volumes of the manga and various pieces of merch. The 2016 Berserk anime and Berserk: The Golden Age Arc - Memorial Edition are currently streaming on Crunchyroll, but as of this writing, the 1998 anime is not available to stream.

Viewers should be aware that the original Berserk manga series and its anime adaptations are intended for mature audiences and contain intense violence, mature subject matter, and frequent disturbing content.

Stay tuned this fall for the release of Berserk chapter 377 on October 25 and chapter 378 on November 8 in Japan and later on for their official English releases, and keep following us here on Anime Away for news about all the major upcoming anime and manga releases.
