Crunchyroll reports that an anime series based on the hit PlayStation game Ghost of Tsushima is in the works. Announced at Sony Group Corporation’s CES 2025 press conference, preliminary information about the Ghost of Tsushima anime indicates that the series will specifically be based on the game's Ghost of Tsushima: Legends multiplayer spinoff. As of this initial reveal, the upcoming anime is currently scheduled for a 2027 release. Crunchyroll is confirmed to stream the series when it debuts.
This new Ghost of Tsushima anime project represents a collaboration between multiple subsidiaries of the Sony Group Corporation conglomerate. Both the single-player Ghost of Tsushima game and the Legends spinoff were developed by Sucker Punch, a subsidiary of PlayStation Studios. Similarly, the anime itself will be produced by Aniplex and Sony Music. Since merging with Funimation — owned by Sony at the time of the merger — Crunchyroll as also been a Sony subsidiary, making it the logical choice for the streaming home of a Sony-produced anime series.
Takanobu Mizuno was announced as the director. Mizuno previously directed The Duel, one of the segments of the first season of the Star Wars: Visions anime anthology series available to stream on Disney Plus. Kamikaze Douga, the studio where Mizuno directed the segment was also announced to be returning with Mizuno to produce the new series. Gen Urobuchi was announced to be writing. No other cast or crew were announced at the reveal and an English dub was not confirmed. We'll be following the development of the new Ghost of Tsushima anime series to share additional information as it becomes available.
