This is the horror anime to watch if you liked Smile 2

Smile 2 left us feeling super spooked after viewing how quickly a curse can spread from host to host if not dealt with at the root.

In addition, the film also left us uneasy about what to do in an event where something supernatural is taking place but you have no one to tell. Rather, you're just waiting for the supernatural occurrence to take your loved one or you.

As much as the story of this 2024 film made us want to crawl into a hole, it seems we can't escape a story like this one just yet since there is another 2024 title very similar to this one. So much so that we can imagine a universe where both paranormal activities can occur at the same time and it would make complete sense while still being equally horrifying.

How Uzumaki is just like Smile 2

Whereas the host in Smile 2 is haunted by an evil demon that haunts them until it eventually takes their life, the individuals in Uzumaki are haunted by the imagery of spirals until it drives them to the brink of insanity or death.

Kirie, one of the protagonists in the anime, is haunted by the spirals at one point. The horrifying phenomenon drives her to the point of being petrified by what she might do if she doesn't get rid of the mark once and for all. In this sense, Kirie is a lot like our Smile 2 protagonist, Skye Riley, who is also a victim.

Unlike Skye, Kirie's haunting isn't necessarily a death sentence and because of her boyfriend, Shuichi, she can break free from the curse to aid others. Shuichi can be compared to Smile 2's Morris, as both characters are willing to put themselves in harm's way to help out a friend no matter the result.

Last but not least, what makes Smile 2 very similar to Uzumaki is the spreading of something that goes beyond anyone's understanding.

No one knows how or why the demon of Smile 2 wants to wreak havoc on the human world, ensuring that whatever host it takes hold of lives the rest of their lives in agony. No one even knows what it looks like until their very last moments. All these characteristics are very much like the curse that haunts Kirie and Shuichi.

Like the demon, Uzumaki's spiral seeks to consume until it can no longer consume any further. It's a parasite, hoping to envelop the host until it feels that it has haunted the town enough to cause them to surrender. Simply put, it's a monster.
