Wind Breaker has been such a fun watch from start to finish. Even so, all good things must come to an end!

The shounen anime was exactly what we needed during the spring 2024 anime season, as it had so many great moments, including (but absolutely not limited to) an epic battle between two rival gangs that led to everyone learning more about themselves and others. Or the moment where Sakura, our protagonist learned that he doesn't have to do everything alone if he wants to go to the top. It was a small but mighty realization that we know is going to set the tone for the rest of the series.

While we're not looking forward to saying bye to season 1, we are hoping that we receive a sophomore season to see the story continue. But there are a few things we really want to see in the second season to truly enjoy every second while also receiving a great story.

Without further ado, here's what we're expecting from Wind Breaker season 2! *At this time, the show has not been renewed for another season yet but we're crossing our fingers it does!

Should we receive a season 2 renewal, we would love to see three things from the anime's sophomore season. Those three things are a new rival gang, the further development of characters we've been introduced to, and, of course, more growth from Sakura. Allow us to explain!

A new rival gang

Now that Bofurin and Shishitoren have settled their score, we need another gang to enter the delinquent scene to not only shake things up and give us some conflict but also to further give us an understanding of the fighting styles of the rest of Bofurin. Shishitoren did an alright job at showing some of the conflicts Bofurin endures, but since the gang was barely standing on two legs, we wouldn't really count that as a true rival gang.

The rival we wish to see is formidable and poses a threat to Sakura and the rest of Bofurin for some classic character development.

The backstory of side characters

Wind Breaker is filled with so many great characters, such as Suo, Sugishita, and, of course, our leader Umemiya. While we got a great introduction to these characters in season 1, we would love to know more about these characters' backstories.

For example, we learned that Umemiya grew up in a foster home. However, we can't help but wonder what that experience was like.

Another example is Suo and his strict diet. We've noticed that he barely eats when others around him are eating and has even gone so far as to say he's on a diet. We wonder why that is.

Be it through a rival gang getting some information out of the characters or these characters simply wanting to open up, we want to get all the juicy details we can get.

Character development from Sakura

Sure, we know that Sakura knows the power of being a part of a community. But we don't know why exactly he feels the need to be hyperindependent to the point of thinking he can do everything himself. Flashbacks from Sakura's past seem to shed some light on his current ideology, but there seem to be some missing pieces that are imperative to understanding how he came to be the person that he is today.

In addition to his state of mind, we think Sakura could learn a new fighting technique or two. Granted, he has a natural-born talent. Even so, when we see skills from his stronger peers we can't help but want to see him try it, too.

Sakura is our protagonist, so, naturally, we want nothing more than to see him become the best version of himself possible.

The only reason we can expect so much from a potential Wind Breaker season 2 is that season 1 set us up for such a great anime that we can't wait to know more about. Hopefully, we receive a new season in the near future.
