In honor of Juneteenth week, we think this is the perfect time for anime fans to stream anime shows that they may not have heard before. Only, these anime titles include very intriguing Black characters who are very well-written and, in every way, serve as great representation in an industry that doesn't often include Black characters in a way that's always positive.

By and large, Juneteenth represents freedom, so we thought it best to include anime where Black characters are free to be who they are. Whether that's a super cool samurai or a talented character with artistry so impressive you can't help but want to sing along, there's a character for everyone to aspire to be like.

Without further ado, here are ten anime that you should watch to celebrate Juneteenth!

Carole & Tuesday

Carole & Tuesday is one of those anime shows that we believe is horribly underrated. Fortunately, this is the perfect time to give this anime some watch time because it's a slice-of-life anime that goes down easy and it does a great job at making artists and musicians feel seen.

One of Carole & Tuesday's main characters, Carole, is a Black woman who lives loudly and unapologetically. She's a free-spirit who makes music that certainly reflects her beautiful personality. What's more, she has pretty great style and may even inspire you to buy a couple of outfits that she would probably wear.

Carole is a great representation of Black characters in anime in that she shows that Black characters can be free to dream and aspire to follow different paths in life. Check out the official trailer for the anime below!

Carole & Tuesday is now streaming on Netflix. But don't let that be the only anime you stream this week!

In addition to Carole & Tuesday, here are more anime featuring Black characters to stream for Juneteenth:

Yasuke

Last but not least, we recommend watching Yasuke, an anime that tells the story of our very first Black samurai!

Yasuke was a real-life warrior with fighting skills that were second to none, so when he came to Japan, it was only natural that his skills got him far enough to become history's very first Black samurai. Naturally, there were plights Yasuke faced that other samurai didn't go through. Nevertheless, Yasuke pushed past them all and became a name history will never forget.

The Netflix anime is loosely based off this amazing individual, as the title has a few fun spins on the famous story. Even so, it's a story that is sure to move you. See the official trailer for Yasuke here!

Now that you know which anime titles you should be watching for Juneteenth week, head to any of the above streaming services to enjoy every minute.
