What happened previously in The Rising of the Shield Hero?

In the last episode of The Rising of the Shield Hero, Gaelion swallowed the dragon emperor's core and went out of control. The dragon flew away from the village and Naofumi meets with his crew to devise a plan to tame Gaelion. Rat informs the group that dragon cores include both the Dragon's memories and its abilities can be used by another that uses the core.

Naofumi decides on his traveling party but is interrupted by Eclair who lets the group know that Filo is unwell. Filo is sick and is losing her powers to Gaelion and Naofumi urges the group to prepare to find the dragon. Filo level is decreasing and Atla attempts to ease the suffering by slowing the flow. Filo insists on joining Naofumi with Atla, Fohl, Melty, and Wyndia.

The group arrives at a village in the mountains that they visited before when Ren encountered the Zombie dragon. Filo collapses and Fohl offers to look after her. The villagers inform Naofumi that the Gaelion has entered the dragon's den cave in the mountains. The group encounters a creature on the way and Wyndia uses her magic derived from dragon veins to fend off the monster. Back at the village, Filo continues to deteriorate and her curse becomes worse as Filo starts to lash out in a fit of rage. While en route to the cave, Ren remembers his mission when he took down the dragon that brought a curse on the village. Naofumi urges Ren to move forward fight.

The group enters the cave and encounters the Dragon that has been affected by the stone. Filo enters the scene and attacks the dragon but is swallowed by the creature. As the group attacks the dragon, Gaelion becomes stronger and evolves into a larger and more powerful dragon. Wyndia runs towards the dragon and pleads to the monster calling it her father. it is revealed that Wyndia's father was the dragon that was slain by Ren and brought the Zombie curse to the village.

As Wyndia begs the dragon to stop, the creature swipes at Wyndia, who is saved by Ren. The evolved creature reveals that he is the Emperor Dragon from the world of Kizuna and is driven to take down those heroes. Naofumi realizes that the dragon is using his shield to gain more power. Noafumi tries to purposely sabotage his wraith shield, but the Dragon unlocks the shield's powers forcefully and releases a powerful attack toward the crew. Naofumi's party is left weakened and Naofumi's attempt to shield off the attack that aims towards the children at the end of the episode.
