Leviathan is the latest Netflix anime news announcement of the year and it seems to be coming with a lot of promise.

Originally written by Scott Westerfeld, Leviathan follows the life of a young girl who takes on the disguise of a young boy to embark on a legendary mission to enlist in an army where extraordinary things happen. While there, however, she gets a bit more than she may have bargained for, as the highs and lows that come with war can be far too much for anyone to stomach.

Read the official synopsis here (via Netflix Media Center):

"In 1914, on the eve of war, a fugitive prince and a girl in disguise meet aboard a bioengineered airship, the HMS Leviathan, and change the course of history."

If you thought learning about the story of this Netflix anime was interesting, just wait until you learn the who's who behind the title because it's sure to blow you away!

Spirited Away composer lends talent to Netflix's Leviathan

As we mentioned before, the cast and crew behind Leviathan is full of heavy hitters. For example, you will be pleased to know that Joe Hisaishi, the same creative who worked on Studio Ghibli titles like Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky, is the same person who has created the beautiful original songs in this anime.

Alongside Hisaishi are even more incredible people! Without further ado, here is the crew of Netflix's Leviathan:

  • Director: Christophe Ferreira
  • Illustrator: Keith Thompson
  • Music: Kazuma Jinnouchi + Nobuko Toda
  • Production/Produced By: Orange, Qubic Pictures

Does the name Qubic Pictures ring a few bells? That's because this group is compromised of the individuals who brought you Star Wars: Visions, Kick Heart, and Eden (yet another stunning Netflix anime that you should certainly watch in your spare time).

Between the story of Leviathan and the hands that worked relentlessly on the project, this anime isn't one that you want to miss! Be sure to keep an eye out for the title when it officially arrives in 2025!
