Solo Leveling episode 2 recap

In the previous episode of Solo Leveling, Sung Jinwoo is stuck in the dungeon with his group and they are in a dire situation. Sung was able to alert the group to take cover as the statue fires a beam toward one of the hunters.

Song praises Sung for his observation skills but loses an arm in the aftermath of the attack. Joohee is in panic mode and she freezes as Song figures that the statues make be an A-rank or S-rank opponent. Song recites the lines from the scripture written in the chamber where it says to revere god, praise god, and to give a sacrifice. Sung wonders if God is represented by the statue sitting on the chair. Song implores the group to adopt a strategy and one of the members is killed attempting to escape. Sung then questions the first line of the scripture "revere god".

Sung subsequently bows his head towards the statue and observes that the statue halts its attack. Sung then stresses that the rest of the group follow suit. The statue then smiles and rises from the chair and heads toward the hunter. Sung then remembers the second line of the scripture "praise god" and one of the hunters then kneels and prays towards the statues but ends up getting trampled. Sung then figures that the praise does not apply to the god statue.

As the statues continue to eliminate more hunters, Sung notices that there are other statues with weapons and instruments. He notifies the members to head towards the statues with instruments and the statues begin to play music. Sung leaves Joohee at one of the instrument statues, and he heads towards another one but is attacked by the shield statue. Sung ends up losing one of his legs trying to head towards another instrument statue. As Joohee attempts to heal Sung, the statue then summons an altar and this alludes to the third line of the scripture which is to prove faith in god. This implies a sacrifice and Song, the group leader, offers himself but Sung realizes that the flame around the altar signals that the group should head towards it.

Several statues approach the hunters and Sung yells to stare at the statues to halt their movements. However, members begin to panic and they flee the altar and head out of the door. As members escape, there are fewer people on the altar which then brings the statues closer to the hunters within the altar. Sung then tells Song to take Joohee as he decides to sacrifice himself. Sung then becomes the target of the statues as they lunge their attacks toward Shim.

Song is slashed and crushed as he reflects on his life and his resentment for the group and their selfishness. The episode ends with the final flame going out in the altar and a log screen appears to notify Sung that is qualified to be a 'Player'.
