Howl's Moving Castle returns to theaters for its 20th anniversary
By Diana Nosa
There's no mistake that one of everyone's favorite Studio Ghibli films is none other than Howl's Moving Castle.
The award-winning animated title, which was released in 2004, has continuously set the bar high for thousands of other titles in its category. After all, it's not every day that you'll get to watch a film that explores the topic of beauty in a way that is haunting but also very enchanting. Also, this is the same film that sets the bar pretty high for romance lovers out there since Howl, our deuteragonist, is willing to do anything to secure Sophie, our lovely protagonist.
As you can see, we will always be head-over-heels for Howl's Moving Castle. The same goes for many fans out there, so we're more than glad that the film is slated to return to American movie theaters nationwide to celebrate its whopping 20th anniversary on Thursday, Sept. 26!
Howl's Moving Castle debuts new artwork ahead of upcoming theatrical re-release
As reported by CBR, the brand-new promotional art for Howl's Moving Castle was officially released ahead of the exciting news.
Check out the illustration below (via @Catsuka)!
Those who know the film like the back of their hands know that this illustration does a superb job of showing the juxtaposition of Sophie and Howl's worlds.
Sophie is very good-natured and is someone who approaches issues with a pretty refreshing point of view, whereas Howl is someone who, while not necessarily a chaotic person, tends to be surrounded by disorder and confusion. These two completely different characters come together to influence one another greatly, hence why it's a pretty neat detail for the new artwork to include them in this way.
Perhaps the 2004 classic receiving new content will set a precedence for other Studio Ghibli films we're dying to see more of. As we wait to see if this is true, be sure to head to your local theater to catch the re-release of Howl's Moving Castle! But before you do, check out the brand-new 20th-anniversary trailer below.
