Kaiju No. 8 episode 2 release date and time

Kaiju No. 8 had its series premiere last weekend and its second episode will be released this weekend. The pilot episode introduced the Kaiju world where Kafka Hibino obtains the power to turn into a Kaiju and becomes part of the defense corps. to fight other creatures. This next episode will detail Kafka's escape with Ichikawa as they navigate the new reality where Kafka has Kaiju powers.

Kaiju No. 8 episode 2 is titled "Kafka Turns Into A Kaiju" and is scheduled to be released on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11:00 pm Japanese Standard Time (JST) and will be simulcast on Crunchyroll in the United States. The episode will also be available in the U.S. on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

Kaiju No. 8 episode 1 recap

In the first episode of the series, the show begins with a depiction of a fictional version of Japan where Kaiju, otherwise known as monsters, exist. A Kaiju has appeared and is wreaking havoc in Yokohama and an emergency alert was issued for evacuation.

Military officials talk back and forth and they order the defense corps. to eliminate the creature. The third division is selected to exterminate the Kaiju, so the members arrive at the scene with their leader, Mina Ashiro, and they swiftly take out the creature. The show then cuts to Kafka Hibino, the main character, as he watches the extermination. His coworker notifies him that it is time to clean up the Kaiju as they are part of the cleaning crew.

Mina and her crew are praised as they exit the mission and Kafka arrives with the cleaning crew. The audience learns that his job is to clean up the monsters' corpses from the city as they take samples and remove organs and body parts. Later, we see Kafka in bed at home as he catches Mina being praised for her accomplishments on television. We then see a flashback between Kafka and Mina as they are revealed to be childhood friends who promise to enter the Defense Corps together and defeat the Kaiju because their hometown was destroyed.

In the present, Kafka reflects on his life as he gave up on his dream but remains adamant that he contributes to his current job. The next morning, Kafka arrives to work with a new employee joining the crew. The new hire is introduced as Reno Ichikawa, who is determined to join the Defense Corps. Reno confronts Kafka for giving up on his dream and states his determination to join the Defense Corps.

Later at the cleaning site, Kafka and Reno both are assigned to intestines duties which helps Reno to cope with the after-effects of the job. As the rest of the crew head home after work, Reno approaches Kafka and thanks him for the assistance. Reno then informs Kafka that the age cutoff was raised for the Defense Force and that he should reapply.

Kafka is appreciative of the talk with Reno but then a Yoju appears and attempts to devour Ichikawa. Kafka steps in and pushes Ichikawa out of the way, telling him to run and ask for help. Kafka attempts to distract the monster alone and he jumps through a window and it triggers a flashback again. The flashback reveals a bit of the backstory between Kafka and Mina Ashiro. The Kaiju ruined their homes and their school and Mino's cat died. The two kids vow to take out the beasts and join the Defense Force.

In the present, Kafka resolves himself to fight the beast but is taken down shortly after, Ichikawa intervenes and then the defense corps arrive in time to take the creature out and Kafka spots Mina nearby. Kafka and Reno end their day in the hospital as they both become motivated to join the Defense Corps. During their talk, a small Kaiju appears in the hospital's room and burrows itself inside Kafka. Moments later, Ichikawa checks in on Kafka who has turned into a humanoid Kaiju able to talk. A the end of the episode, Kafka is forced to escape as a patient spots him in his Kaiju form.
