Kaiju No. 8 episode 3 release date and time (and an episode 2 recap)

Kaiju No. 8 had its series premiere this month and already, viewers are hooked. Its third episode will be released this weekend, so we're here to break down when to watch, how to watch, and what happened last so you don't forget a thing.

The pilot episode introduced the Kaiju world where Kafka Hibino obtains the power to turn into a Kaiju and becomes part of the defense corps to fight other creatures. The previous episode covered Kafka and Reno's escape and their clash with another Yoju. This next episode will detail Reno and Kafka's attempt at the defense force exam.

Episode 3 release date and time

Kaiju No. 8 episode 3 is titled "Revenge Match" and is scheduled to be released on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:00 pm Japanese Standard Time (JST) and will be simulcast on Crunchyroll in the United States. The episode will be available in the U.S. on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Episode 2 recap

Episode 2 begins with a flashback between Mina Ahiro and Kafka Hibino as they study Kaijus. In the present, Mina informs her third division squad that there has been a Kaiju spotted at the hospital and they have to eliminate it. The Yokohama district sounds its alarms and warns the civilians that the Kaiju is loose.

The show then returns to Kafka and Ichikawa in the hospital room as they attempt to escape after the old man in the hallway calls the authorities. Kafka is still conscious of his Kaiju form and panics as he decides on the next move. The boys decide to flee in order to avoid more damage since Kafka is too strong in his Kaiju form. While fleeing the area, Reno wonders how Kafka has ended up in this condition, and then Kafka begins to find out about the anatomy of his new form.

Reno is concerned because the defense force won't show any mercy towards Kaiju, and Kafka senses another Kaiju nearby. Mina follows the Kaiju tracks and Kafka informs Reno that there is another Yoju nearby. The Yoju attempts to devour a mother and daughter nearby and is stopped by Kafka. Kafka uses his strength to knock the creature away and Reno attempts to aid the civilians. The child is terrified at Kafka's kaiju form appearance and then the Yoju returns. Kafka charges his punch to immediately defeat the monster. He then heads over to the little girl as Kafka remembers another past memory between him and Mina.

Kafka renews his determination to join the defense force as he wishes to fight with Mina. After the boys leave, the defense forces arrive on the scene and discover that Yoju has been eliminated with the mother and daughter nearby. Mina checks on the little girl and she realizes that the Yoju was defeated by another Kaiju.

The show then cuts to Kafka's workplace and three months have passed since the emergence of Kaiju No. 8. Reno enters the workplace and receives documents that include the results of their defense force selection. Reno has passed and when he peeks into Kafka's mail, he realizes Kafka has passed as well. He heads over to Kafka, who is still working on his Kaiju form, and Kafka reveals that he always passes the first round of the selection but the second round is where he stumbles. Reno and Kafka remain determined and head over to the second round of selections 10 days later.

They meet a girl who asks them to move their work car, but she eventually moves the car herself using a special suit. The boys are speechless after witnessing her strength and then the girl, named Kikoru, informs Kafka that he smells like a Kaiju at the end of the episode.
