Kaiju No. 8 episode 4 release date and time (and an episode 3 recap)

Kaiju No. 8 had its series premiere last month and already, viewers are hooked. Its fourth episode will be released this weekend, so we're here to break down when to watch, how to watch, and what happened last so you don't forget a thing.

The series introduced the Kaiju world where Kafka Hibino obtains the power to turn into a Kaiju and becomes part of the defense corps to fight other creatures. The previous episode covered Kafka and Reno taking the defense force exam as they attempted to pass the Kaiju extermination. Kafka is seriously injured by a Yoju but refuses to give up and is able to increase his combat power. This next episode will likely conclude the exam as Kafka and Reno's results are revealed.

Kaiju No. 8 episode 4 is titled "Fortitude 9.8" and is scheduled to be released on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11:00 pm Japanese Standard Time (JST) and will be simulcast on Crunchyroll in the United States. The episode will be available in the U.S. on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

Kaiju No. 8 episode 3 recap

In the previous episode, Kafka and Reno encounter Kikoru Shinomiya before their defense force exam. Shinomiya uses her suit to move their car out of her desired parking spot. The two are surprised at her power and then Kafka surprisingly picks up his car to turn it upright. Kikoru is shocked at his display of strength and Reno is furious because he wants to keep Kafka's ability a secret. Reno and Kafka agree to keep his abilities dormant for the rest of the exam and they begin the fitness portion of the exam.

The test is split into two parts, fitness and aptitude. Kafka is adamant about scoring well in the fitness portion but he does not do well as he is at the bottom of the list of applicants in that portion. Kikoru scores fifth on the fitness exam and teases Kafka for his lackluster start. Reno then meets up with Kafka as they examine the notable candidates present for the exam. Reno points out that Shinomiya is the prodigy out of all the applicants as she continues to roast Kafka's shortcomings.

Reno informs Kafka that the second phase of the exam will involve clean-up duties which is their specialty. However, when they arrive for the second phase, they find out that they will actually have to eliminate Kaijus in the area. The third division captain, Hoshina, meets the participants and explains they will have to capture and exterminate the creatures that leave Reno and Kafka frozen. The examinees put on their combat suits which analyze their combat abilities. The suits are capable of multiplying the combat power of the wearer to fight the monsters.

Kikoru has the highest combat capabilities and Kafka is at zero percent which leaves the proctors speechless. Hoshina then lays out the testing grounds, and the examinees head out with their suits and weapons. Kikoru starts out with a bang and puts her abilities on display as she takes out a few monsters. Kafka and Reno discuss their plan and Hoshina informs the test takers that Mina will be spectating. Kafka advises Reno that they should act as support as they can shine in that role. They arrive near one of the creatures and Kafka throws a stun grenade near its head to immobilize it.

Kafka has had experience with these monsters during his cleaning job and he informs the other participants to target the stomach of the monster. They take down the monster while Kafka and Reno head to their next destination before a Yoju appears and injures Kafka. The proctors find that Kafka's vitals are down and he has sustained serious damage from the Yoju and they may force him to escape the exam. Kikoru is able to take down the Yoju in time as Kafka has trouble getting up. Hoshino informs Kafka that his injuries are serious but Kafka refuses to quit and his combat suit power rises as he stands up at the end of the episode.
