Episode 8 recap

In the previous episode, Kafka encounters Vice Captain Hoshino in the alleyway in his Kaiju form and the two immediately clash. Hoshino releases his limiters and hurls slashes towards Kafka. The two engage in close combat and Hoshino begins to question Kaiju No. 8 fighting behaviors.

Kafka takes a few slashes to the body and almost leaves his core exposed. He is able to regenerate and fend off Hoshino long enough to escape. Hoshino reports that Kaiju No.8 escaped, and Kafka regroups with Kikoru at the end of the mission.

Kafka is exhausted from his bouts with Kaiju No. 9 and Hoshino, and the two prepare to visit Reno and Iharu at the Hospital. Hoshino reflects on his battle with Kaiju No. 8, and Mina reassures him that they will neutralize the creature. Hoshino believes Kafka's Kaiju form is a DaiKaiju, and the squad is informed that Kaiju No.9 has the to ability take the from of a human.

The episode cuts to Kaiju No. 9 wandering into a tunnel before it is interrupted by a bystander in their car. The Kaiju elects to consume the bystander and take its identity. The Kaiju has shifted its focus on dealing with Kaiju No.8 and begins to adjust to its new body.

The episode shifts back to Kafka and Shinomiya next to Reno at the hospital. Reno wakes up to Kafka, and the two reflect on their mission. Once Reno and Iharu check out of the hospital, they are surprised with a celebration party for completing their first mission. The squad celebrates together with chefs, and the recruits have fun.

Haruichi is revealed to be the heir to Izumi Technologies, which is the company that makes Kaiju weapons. Hoshino informs Kafka that he has been promoted from cadet to officer, and the rest of the room celebrates.

Later, Kafka and Mina meet his her office, and she inducts him as an officer. During the night, Kafka continues to study and stumbles onto Hoshino training. Kafka observes that Hoshino is recreating his fight with himself, and then the show reveals another intelligent Kaiju preparing its entrance towards the end of the episode.
