Kotaro Lives Alone and 4 other anime to watch on Memorial Day 2024
By Diana Nosa
Memorial Day is almost here, which means you and your loved ones finally get that much-needed three-day weekend!
Some spend this weekend firing up the grill and hanging out with family, while others head down to their local beach to enjoy some fun in the some. However, there are those who prefer to chill in the comfort of their homes and catch up with TV releases they might've missed. If the latter sounds like you, you've come to the perfect place because we have some anime recommendations that may sound appetizing for your weekend binge!
Although three days seem like a lot of time, we still know the importance of being able to binge-watch an anime as quickly as possible. That's why all these anime have a maximum of 12 episodes. But don't let that number steer you in the opposite direction, as each of these titles is not only very entertaining but very well-written. Without further ado, here are five anime that you should absolutely watch this Memorial Day weekend!
Barakamon
Where to stream: Crunchyroll
Barakamon is a wholesome anime that follows the life of a man who is in desperate need of a break from his normal life to take in the beauties of a more slow-paced lifestyle. While on his vacation, he meets a lively young girl who definitely makes his day much more chaotic than usual. However, that's the exact thing he needs so that he can grow into a warmer, more patient person rather than someone who has a hairpin trigger.
This anime will not only leave you feeling good but also have you laughing until you cry!
Daily Lives of High School Boys
Where to stream: Crunchyroll
If you're someone who prefers to watch an anime that is so hilarious that it's ridiculous then look no further than Daily Lives of High School Boys, as this anime is the perfect concoction of harmless stupidity mixed with gag humor that never gets old. It doesn't take itself too seriously, often poking fun at itself as well as many other anime that you may be familiar with. All in all, it's an anime that is the true definition of funny!
You'll spend so much time laughing at this anime that you'll be close to the end before you know it, so be sure to savor each and every joke. The replay value never deteriorates!
Kotaro Lives Alone
Where to stream: Netflix
Fans of Kotaro Lives Alone will agree that this is an anime that catches you off-guard at times. Sometimes an episode will be the most feel-good thing you've watched in a while. Other times, an episode will feel like it's ripping your heart out with how sad it can be. Regardless of the episode, what we love about this anime is that it addresses the complex which allows you to experience all emotions.
You can't help but want to be friends with this adorable little guy and all the great people he meets throughout. Just make sure to bring a few tissues with you for those heartwarming moments that can't help but tug at your heartstrings.
Orange
Where to stream: Crunchyroll
Orange is yet another heartbreaking anime. Even so, what makes this anime different from the rest is that it works backward from the tragic moment rather than leading up to it.
This anime is a story of a girl who is guided by her future self to take certain steps to save the life of a dear friend who died by suicide because she and her friends weren't privy to just how much he was suffering. Little differences in the actions they take and decisions they make are the deciding factors of whether they can save their friend's life, putting into importance how paramount it is that we ensure we are considerate and caring of every person.
Kiss Him, Not Me
Where to stream: Crunchyroll
Kiss Him, Not Me is a reverse harem anime title that almost puts every other reverse harem anime to shame.
Instead of going the typical route of having the female protagonist clueless about which boy she wants, this anime makes it so that the protagonist doesn't want any of the boys since she would much prefer that they be in relationships with each other. Her BL (boys' love) obsession does often cloud her reality, but it's completely harmless because she just loves love in all forms.
Romance aside, you'll learn a lot of great life lessons through this show, so be sure to tune in!
