Excited about what’s to come? So are we! But before we get a chance to sink our teeth into this anime film that may or may not give you an existential crisis, here’s a little more to know about the 2024 smash hit.
Why Look Back may bring you to tears
When two unlikely individuals, Fujino and Kyomoto, come together to form a beautiful partnership where one writes a compelling story and the other illustrates beautifully well, one would think that there is nothing that could go wrong. Even so, sometimes, when polar opposites attract, they may end up rubbing off on one another in a way that may not exactly always bear the best fruit.
Our dynamic duo encounter many hardships on their path to becoming established authors. Some of which threaten their very identities. Because of the various trials and tribulations they face, they have a lot to learn about one another. However, nothing compares to how much they’ll learn about themselves.
Read more on the official synopsis (via Rotten Tomatoes):
"Popular, outgoing Fujino is celebrated by her classmates for her funny comics in the class newspaper. One day, her teacher asks her to share the space with Kyomoto, a truant recluse whose beautiful artwork sparks a competitive fervor in Fujino. What starts as jealousy transforms when Fujino realizes their shared passion for drawing. Based on the acclaimed manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of "Chainsaw Man", Look Back captures the highs and lows of pursuing artistic excellence and the special bonds formed through creative collaboration. The heart-wrenching story is the stunning feature-length directorial debut from Kiyotaka Oshiyama that will leave you in tears and inspire you to chase your own artistic dreams."
