Mashle: Magic and Muscles season 1 recap
Season 1 comprises of the Easton Enrollment Arc and the Magia Lupus Arc. The show introduces the viewers to a world of magic where magic powers are valued and those who do not have powers are cast away. The main character is Mash Burnedead, who possesses no magical powers but is blessed with physical strength.
Mash was abandoned as a baby because he lacked a marking on a face that signified magical powers and was taken in by his adoptive father, Regro Burnedead. They live in the woods on the outskirts of the city. Mash has an affinity for eating cream puffs which are signified throughout the season. When Mash enters the city seeking out a bakery for cream puffs, he is spotted by civilians for lacking markings on his face.
Brad Coleman of The Bureau of Magic security force goes after Mash, since those who lack magic markings are not welcomed in society. Brad tracks Mash to his house and is overtaken by his physical strength. Brad offers a compromise with Mash, asking him to enroll in magic school and strive to become a divine visionary. Mash as a divine visionary would allow Brad to live a life of prestige. Mash agrees in order to live a peaceful life with his father. He then enters magic school with a fake marking on his face and his journey begins.
Mash enters the school and takes the admission exams. He is able to pass the exams with his physical prowess and he encounters a female student named Lemon who is introduced as a side character in the series. Lemon was recruited to stop Mash from passing the exam, but Mash is able to save Lemon from harm during the test and pass it.
The headmaster of the school then interviews Mash, gains an understanding of the student, and decides to keep an eye on him. Classes start and Mash meets his roommate, Finn, another side character in the series. Mash learns from Finn that he needs to collect gold coins to become a divine visionary.
During his time at school, Mash encounters Lloyd Cavill, a bully who uses Finn in order to get to Mash. Mash takes down the bully and is summoned by the headmaster for his actions. Wahlberg notes Mash's courage and lets him go. Mash then encounters Lance Crown, another student who is striving to collect coins in order to become a divine visionary. Lance wishes to save his sister as a divine visionary and puts Mash to the test in the forest. Mash is able to deal with Lance and the two develop a friendship. During another class, mash meets Dot, a fiery student, and the two become buddies as Mash saves him from another bully associated with the Magia Lupus.
Mash encounters the Magia Lupus, a secret organization led by Abel Walker. They steal coins from other dorms as Abel is set on becoming a divine visionary. Mash comes face to face with the organization and is able to leave with his coin as the Magia Lupus prepares to face him later. Members of the Magia Lupus begin to confront Mash and his friends and the two groups continue to clash.
Mash and his friends discover that Lemon has turned into a puppet due to Abel's powers and they head to the basement to confront the Magia Lupus. Mash and Lance beat their opponents, and Dot and Finn confront other members of the Magia Lupus. While they battle, the Divine Visionary Rayne appears to defeat the Magia Lupus members and it is revealed that he is Finn's brother. Mash is able to overcome Abel's powers and save Lemon and Finn.
Rayne confronts members of Innocent Zero. Cell War is able to escape and heads for Mash and Abel. Mash is able to fend off Cell as his friends realize Mash doesn't have magic powers and that he possesses superhuman strength. Cell escapes and promises to return and Mash's friends vow to keep his secret. At the end of the season, Cell returns to Innocent Zero and informs him of his findings at the magic school.
We can't wait to see what the second season of this anime has in store.
