During San Diego Comic-Con, Netflix revealed the second trailer for the upcoming new entry in the Mobile Suit Mobile Franchise — Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance. The reveal also included the announcement of the series's release date. The six-episode series will begin streaming on Netflix on October 17, 2024.

Notably, Gundam: Requiem for Vegenace is animated entirely in Unreal Engine 5, the same technology used in hit video games such as Fortnite, Tekken 8, and Dead by Daylight. Requiem for Vengeance is a co-production of the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise's longtime studio Bandai Namco Filmworks — formerly known as Sunrise — and SAFEHOUSE and is distributed internationally by Netflix. Netflix has provided the following synopsis:

"Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance" is an all-new original animation composed of six 30-minute episodes focusing on the European front of the One Year War, which was the setting of the first Gundam series, "Mobile Suit Gundam." Produced in collaboration with SAFEHOUSE using Unreal Engine 5, the series is written by Gavin Hignight, who wrote the animated series "Tekken: Bloodline" and "Transformers: Cyberverse," as well as the video game "Marvel's Spider-Man," and is directed by Erasmus Brosdau, who has also worked on the animated series "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness" and the video games "Star Citizen," "Ryse: Son of Rome" and the "Crysis" series."

Prepare for Requiem for Vengeance by catching up with the Gundam franchise

The franchise began with the original Mobile Suit Gundam, which debuted in 1979. As stated by Netflix, Requiem for Vengeance will take place in the same time period as the original anime series and tell a story occurring in parallel with the events of the original series. The most recent series in the franchise is 2022's Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, a female-led series that was in a number of ways, although its ending proved divisive with the fanbase. There have also been multiple sequel and spin-off movies, manga adaptations, and numerous video games.

Multiple entries in the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise are currently available to stream on Crunchyroll, including the original, The Witch from Mercury, and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, the first series in the franchise to be released in North America. In fact, the popularity of Gundam Wing's original run in the spring of 2000 was directly responsible for the original Mobile Suit Gundam being dubbed and released in North America.

Additionally, several of the Gundam anime movies are available to stream on Netflix. However, due to licensing agreements, not all movies are available in all international regions. There are also longstanding rumors that Netflix is producing a live-action Gundam movie, but there have been few concrete details announced.
