Ghost in the Shell is a story that has been adapted time and time again. We certainly understand why, as the story is not only very electrifying but is also becoming more and more likely with how advanced technology is evolving. What's more, its cyberpunk genre is one that is few and far between, meaning Ghost in the Shell's demand only grows over time.
With all of Ghost in the Shell's popularity in mind, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that the story is, once again, receiving an adaptation. This time, however, we're receiving a new anime with amazing visuals and equally amazing storytelling. Here's everything to know!
Ghost in the Shell explores the pros and cons of humanoids
As we mentioned earlier, Ghost in the Shell belongs to the cyberpunk genre which means that you can expect robots and androids to be incorporated in the story.
In the case of this particular story, Ghost in the Shell takes it a step further by questioning what would happen if humans received robotic improvements to their bodies to become machines that can do anything and everything.
There are so many benefits that can come with this hypothetical, including (but not limited to) living slightly longer since your body can practically repair itself and increased physical activity since you are no longer made up of nothing but flesh and bone. However, there are just as many drawbacks since the problem with technology and humanity intertwining is that humanity's emotions are always going to get in the way of true progress.
Check out the official synopsis of this anime below:
"Deep into the twenty-first century, the line between man and machine has been inexorably blurred as humans rely on the enhancement of mechanical implants and robots are upgraded with human tissue. In this rapidly converging landscape, cyborg superagent Major Motoko Kusanagi is charged to track down the craftiest and most dangerous terrorists and cybercriminals, including “ghost hackers” who are capable of exploiting the human/machine interface and reprogramming humans to become puppets to carry out the hackers’ criminal ends. When Major Kusanagi tracks the cybertrail of one such master hacker, the Puppeteer, her quest leads her into a world beyond information and technology where the very nature of consciousness and the human soul are turned upside down."Kodansha USA
