What Happened previously in The Rising of the Shield Hero?
The show started with Naofumi Iwatani being summoned to another world in which he was branded as the shield hero. He was accompanied by three other heroes known as the bow, sword, and spear hero. The heroes were brought to the kingdom of Melromarc and briefed on their roles as cardinal heroes and they were summoned in order to save this world from catastrophic waves. After convincing the heroes to complete this task, the kingdom provided adventurers to join their parties.
Naofumi was joined reluctantly by a woman named Myne, who had nefarious intentions. The heroes were informed to embark on an adventure in order to become more experienced and level up to become more powerful as they counter the incoming waves that aim to destroy the world. However, the next day, Naofumi woke up to disturbing false allegations by Myne who stated she was sexually assaulted by him. The kingdom and the citizens sided with Myne and Naofumi became an outcast and was sent out alone on his adventure.
Naofumi was broken by this sequence of events and experienced difficulty as his only power was a shield which had very little offensive capability in battling monsters. Naofumi turned to take in a slave and he chose a demi-human, named Raphtalia, to be his sword. The two began to fight together and level up in order to fight the waves. They became stronger in their travels as Naofumi began to unlock more skills with his shield.
Myne was revealed to be the King's daughter and used the spear hero as her personal puppet in defending the kingdom. Naofumi was eventually vindicated when the Queen and Melty, the younger daughter, brought Myne's crimes forward to the public along with the King and they were stripped of their title and their names. Naofumi's good deeds and efforts were rewarded as he was given Raphtalia's homeland and was given the title of the lord of the land and helped rebuild the place. The four heroes continued to fight the waves and they are met with heroes from another world who are actively trying to destroy Naofumi's world in order to protect their own.
In The Rising of the Shield Hero season 2, Naofumi was rebuilding Raphtalia's hometown, Seyaette, and took on Rishia into their party, who was a former member of the bow hero's party. Naofumi was summoned by the queen because there was an impending disaster looming upon the world as the Spirit Tortoise awakened and began a rampage. Naofumi planned to confront the monster and met with other generals to discuss their military plans.
Ost Hourai presented herself as a spokesperson for the Spirit Tortoise and informed the generals that the monster planned to collect souls in order to stop the catastrophic waves that plagued their world. As the Spirit Tortoise approached their territory, Naofumi and the generals began their attack and were able to stop the monster by beheading it and they realized that they had to destroy the heart before it awoken again.
They traveled towards the Spirit Tortoise's back and found a path into its body as they moved towards the heart. Naofumi's party encountered the otherworld heroes who were trying to find the real culprit, Kyo Ethnina, the book vassal weapon wielder from another world. The two parties encountered Kyo and were able to overpower him as he retreated to his world.
Naofumi and his party followed Kyo to his world and they went on to find Kyo. Naofumi and his crew started again at level one and they got stronger as Raphtalia became the katana vessel weapon holder. It is revealed that Kyo had been working to bring the catastrophic waves to his world and the heroes confronted him, and Naofumi was able to emerge victorious with the Spirit Tortoise shield. Naofumi's party was able to return to their world and they continued their journey in battling the waves.
