What happened previously in The Rising of the Shield Hero?

In the last episode of The Rising of the Shield Hero, Naofumi ended up victorious in the Underground arena and won his prize money to free the demi-human slaves.

The episode starts with a young demi-human named Fohl returning from his rigged fight to his jail cell. Fohl returns to the underground where demi-humans are being held as slaves. He finds his sister, who is dealing with an illness and is blind. Naofumi and his crew follow the slave trader to see the demi-humans in their cages. There are fake slaves in the collection who are looking for the Shield Hero's blessing. The slave trader then shows Naofumi the demi-human slaves including Fohl, who begs Naofumi to buy him and his sister.

Naofumi finds out Fohl has a high level for his age and that his sister, Atla, is severely ill. Naofumi examines Atla and is able to rehabilitate her with an elixir and she begins to show signs of recovery. The Shield Hero decides to buy the slaves and returns them to Lurolona Village.

Naofumi leads the village to make renovations which will help defend them against the upcoming battles and catastrophic waves. Melty and Naofumi discuss the logistics of running the village and ponder on raising the kids and managing the funds. Atla makes progress in her recovery and begins to learn how to walk again.

While Naofumi visits another village, Lurolona is attacked by raiders who intend to abduct demi-human children and sell them off as slaves. They begin to burn houses down and Fohl runs off with Atla. Fohl is able to set off a flare that was provided to him in case of emergency. While the raiders attempt to eliminate Fohl, Naofumi and his crew intervene and defend the village from the intruders.

Naofumi is enraged that the kids were put in danger again and wants to execute the intruders before Eclair steps in. Eclair discovers that the attackers are related to a noble family due to his armor branding. Naofumi then decides to make them slaves and sends them off to Siltvelt as punishment. Naofumi receives money for the slaves and continues to manage the village. Atla is grateful to the Shield Hero and promises to become stronger. Naofumi takes Sadeena and Fohl to reset their levels so he can use his hero buffs on them. At the castle of Melromarc, Naofumi and his crew encounter the staff hero, who seems to be familiar with Atla and Fohl. The Queen then reveals to the Shield Hero that they have located the Spear Hero, Motoyasu.
