Wandance manga is getting an anime adaptation in 2025

In 2025, Coffee's Wandance sports drama manga will finally receive an anime adaptation. This was announced by their official Twitter/X page and the website. They also revealed a brand new illustration for this announcement as well.

The fans of the series were also excited when they heard that it will be produced by Studio MADHOUSE who recently worked on Frieren: Beyond Journey's End along with Cyclone Graphics. K-Pop choreographer RIEHATA who is a dance instructor for BTS will be the dance producer for the anime.

The Wandance manga has been serialized on Kodansha since 2019, and it has 12 volumes till now. It is written and illustrated by Coffee. According to Kodansha and Crunchyroll, they describe the story as:

"Kaboku Kotani is starting high school, and he plans to do what he’s always done: go along with his friends, keep quiet, and not to draw too much attention to himself. After all, it’s hard enough to get by with a stutter like his—why make things worse by standing out from the crowd? But then he sees another first-year, Hikari Wanda, dancing like no one is watching—or like she doesn’t care who sees her. It makes Kaboku wonder: Could he reach that same freedom? To find his way to Wanda, he does something he never thought he could: He joins the dance club. After all, every routine begins with a single step, right?"

Review and Thoughts

I stumbled upon this manga, which shares a similar name with the Drake song. But this series literally blew my mind.

This is so underrated, and I am finally happy that it is getting an anime adaptation. The main character, who has anxiety and shutters while he speaks, gets attached to dancing.

Most of the story will be based on dancing and the main character's progression to his anxiety. The art in this series was really good, so I am expecting the animation studio to do justice to that part.
