No new material does not mean that fans will be going without. While the One Piece team takes a break from animating new material, they are busy with the task of modernizing and condensing one of the most hotly criticized arcs in the anime. Fishman Island is the perfect candidate for WIT studios to give us an example of this new and improved One Piece. This new adaptation will make the series more accessible to new fans by shortening viewing times and modernizing dated animation and sound design.

Overall, it might be hard to see what feels like an end of an era, a 'great pirate era', if you will. With that being said this hiatus is a net positive for fans. This is a huge opportunity for a property that is so beloved to become even greater, and hopefully invigorate new fans too.
