Kaiju No. 8 episode 8 release date and time (and an episode 7 recap)

Kaiju No. 8 had its series premiere last month and already, viewers are hooked. Its seventh episode was released this past weekend, so we're here to break down how to watch and what happened last so you don't forget a thing.

The series introduced the Kaiju world where Kafka Hibino obtains the power to turn into a Kaiju and becomes part of the defense corps to fight other creatures. The previous episode covered the Reno and Iharu's confrontation with the humanoid Kaiju before Kafka stepped in. This next episode will cover the aftermath of the first mission of the recruits and Kafka's encounter with Hoshino.

Kaiju No. 8 episode 8 is titled "Welcome to the Defense Force" and was released on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, at 11:00 pm Japanese Standard Time (JST) and was simulcast on Crunchyroll in the United States. The episode has been available in the U.S. as of Saturday, June 1st, 2024.

Episode 6 recap

In the previous episode, the recruits are in the midst of their first mission as Reno and Iharu encounter the humanoid Kaiju.

As the two ask the cleaner crew member to evacuate, the humanoid Kaiju attacks Iharu and transforms. Reno and Iharu realize it is the same Kaiju that attacked Kikoru. Reno tries to contact the platoon officer through his earpiece but the communication devices don't work in their area.

The Kaiju displays his intelligence and attack Reno. Reno recalls Kikoru information about the Kaiju and is able to dodge some of the projectiles. Reno then pleads for Iharu to run and get backup as he fends off the creature.

Iharu flees, but he is conflicted with his lack of strength and compares himself to Reno who has been displaying potential for a captain of the Defense Corps. As Reno gets attacked by the Kaiju, Iharu jumps in to save him as he is adamant about fighting the monster together.

The two decide to team up and coordinate their attacks. Unfortunately, Reno is severely damaged by the Kaiju and takes several projectiles to the body.

The episode cuts to Kafka and Shinomiya as they find out that Reno and Iharu's communications have been cut off. Kikoru informs Kafka that she believes that the sentient Kaiju is on the scene.

The Kaiju continues to harm Reno as Iharu begs for strength. Before the Kaiju deals a fatal blow, Kafka arrives and knocks the creature back. Kafka is able to take Reno to safety and reassures him that he will be all right.

Kafka decides to take the Kaiju on, and he takes one of the projectiles. Kafka subsequently deals multiple blows to the Kaiju and is able to expose his core. However, Kafka is confronted by defense corps members before he is able to reach the core, and the two escape.

Hoshino orders a neutralization team after Kaiju No. 8 is spotted and Kikoru is worried for Kafka/ When Kafka retreats from the defense corps, he finds Hoshino in an alleyway. Hoshino immediately springs into action and removes his suit limiters. At the end of the episode, Kafka finds himself on the opposing side of Hoshino's attacks.
