Solo Leveling episode 9 recap

In the previous episode, Sung enters the dungeon with the rest of the crew and they battle goblins. The crew begins to discover Sung's improvement in combat, and they discover that the dungeon splits into three tunnels.

Sung, Joohee, and Song take the first route, while the prisoners take the third path with Kang. The two remaining members take the middle tunnel. While battling the monsters in the middle path, Kim reveals his regret for leaving Sung at the chamber and plans to apologize to him.

In the third path, the prisoners handle the goblins with ease as Kang watches. Kang questions if they feel the monsters they harm are any different than humans. The episode then cuts to a flashback where Kang is approached by a client looking for revenge for the death of his daughter. He presents Kang with an opportunity to kill the three prisoners, and Kang reveals he plans to use his position to falsify their deaths in the dungeon. He will inform the association that the prisoners were overrun by the goblins and perished.

Kim and his partner end up on the third path as it merges from the second path, and they stumble upon the bodies of the prisoners and Kang. Kang subsequently decides to murder the other two crew members to erase the evidence. Sung overhears a shout and runs toward the path with Song and Joohee. The three hunters find the corpses and the remains of their crew members. They deduce that the damage was not the work of a beast and they catch Kim's last words. Kang aims for the healer, Joohee, but is met with resistance from Sung.

Kang plans to spin the deaths of the crew when he escapes, but Song insists on fighting Kang before Sung. Song can fight with a strength buff for some time, but Sung steps in to save him and Kang begins to realize that he met Sung in the hospital room. He starts to believe that Sung did reach a second awakening, which is met with shock from Song and Joohee.

Sung is suspicious about Kang's reasoning for murdering the crew and Kang then reveals that he has a lust for hurting people. Sung's player log assigns him the mission of eliminating Kang as he recovers and uses his dagger. Sung eventually uses his skills and murderous intent to take out Kang. Kang warns Sung that his secret will be difficult to keep as he has just defeated a B-rank hunter.

Kang passes away, and the three remaining members exit the dungeon. The association questions the three members, and Song steps in for Sung and places the responsibility on himself and announces that he took out Kang. Song reveals that he owes Sung for saving him and the episode ends with Joohee showing Sung an essence stone.
