The Rising of the Shield Hero will continue its third season with the seventh episode of the season premiering this weekend. The Sword hero, Ren, reunites with the Shield and Spear Hero as he is able to shake off his curse powers through Eclair's help. The next episode will provide more details on Ren's next step as he picks himself back up from his past failures. What happened previously in The Rising of the Shield Hero?

In the last episode of The Rising of the Shield Hero, the viewers receive a brief backstory on Ren, the sword hero. Ren was a gamer back on earth and a student interested in video games and virtual reality. His experience with games led him to believe he could speed-run as a cardinal hero which turned disastrous when his party encountered the Spirit Tortoise. His party was killed in action during the fight and Ren was left traumatized as he felt he failed everyone.

Ren was shocked and shaken to the core and was not able to return to his normal self which made him an easy target for Myne. Myne is able to influence Ren and she quickly abandons him the night after and he is targeted by warriors from another world. Ren runs away from the attackers and stumbles into a civilian home in an attempt to hide. The civilian notices he is the sword hero and quickly changes her mood and kicks him out.

Outside the civilians turn away from Ren as he has failed his duties as a cardinal hero. Ren witnesses that his image has been corroded by his actions and his lack of apathy towards this world. The sword hero flees towards the forest and encounters another group of attackers. This sequence of events leads Ren to anger and feelings of resentment which activates his curse power and Ren is driven by his rage.

Ren encounters Motoyasu and Naofumi and the three engage in a fight. Ren's behavior catches Naofumi's eyes as he senses a similarity in the sword attacks. Naofumi realizes that Ren is using the sword's curse series and that Ren has been impacted by the sin of greed and gluttony. Naofumi tries to reason with Ren and is then interrupted by the rest of his comrades.

Ralpthalia attempts to clash with Ren and Éclair and then requests to fight Ren alone as she senses his despair through his sword fighting. Ren's curse of greed grows and displays his gluttony curse which is handled by Éclair as she fends off Ren's attacks and knocks him back. The attackers from the other world return and are killed by the Spear Hero. Eclair offers to help Ren grow stronger as he snaps out of his curse. Ren is relieved and accepts Eclair's offer as the three cardinal heroes unite.
