Fall 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the iconic Dragon Ball franchise. Akira Toriyama's original Dragon Ball manga debuted in the pages of the magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump in November 1984. This fall is shaping up to be a major celebration of the franchise's milestone anniversary. The latest anime series in the franchise, Dragon Ball DAIMA and the new 3D fighting game Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO both debut October 11, 2024.
Toei Animation has now shared the first trailer for the anime's upcoming English dub. Crunchyroll also confirms that the English dub will premiere for US audiences with a special theatrical release of the anime's first three episodes. Hosted by Fathom Events, showings of this special debut will be held on November 10, 11 and 12, with tickets going on sale October 11, the same day Dragon Ball DAIMA debuts both on Japanese broadcast TV and on Crunchyroll from international audiences. Like the English dub, the Japanese version of Dragon Ball DAIMA will also be getting a special premiere, being shown at the Daimatsuri fan event in Tokyo on October 6.
Dragon Ball DAIMA celebrates the history of the franchise
The original Japanese voice cast of Dragon Ball DAIMA features the return of Masako Nozawa as Goku, who has continuously voiced Goku since the anime adaptation of the original Dragon Ball debuted in 1986. It was since been revealed that the theatrical showings of the English premiere of Dragon Ball DAIMA hosted by Fathom Events will feature a special introduction of the series done by Nozawa.
The English dub of Dragon Ball DAIMA will be providing fans with a similar dose of Dragon Ball nostalgia. It has been confirmed that Stephanie Nadolny will return to voice Kid Goku in DAIMA. Nadolny the first voice actress to dub the voices of both Gohan and Kid Goku when Funimation (since rolled into Crunchyroll) took over the license to dub and distribute the franchise. As of this writing, the remainder of the English voice cast has not been revealed.
Crunchyroll has confirmed that it will stream Dragon Ball DAIMA in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Via Crunchyroll, the original Japanese version will be available starting October 11 with English, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles. As of this writing, when the English dub will become available on Crunchyroll has not yet been confirmed, though it will presumably not be until after the theatrical premiere event has wrapped up.
