The original run of the My Hero Academia manga wrapped up in the summer of 2024 after 10 years, ending the run of one of the most popular manga series of the 2010s and 2020s. However, the My Hero Academia multimedia franchise is still hugely popular and still going strong — the anime series still needs at least one more season to wrap up the story and You're Next, the latest movie in the franchise was released g this summer. On top of that, the original manga series just reached a major milestone.
As shared by Crunchyroll, 2024 saw the My Hero Academia manga pass the impressive milestone of 100 million copies in print. To commemorate this staggering success, the series' creator Kōhei Horikoshi has drawn a new celebratory image featuring several My Hero Academia characters which has been posted to official My Hero Academia social media pages. 10 years of an iconic series
Starting in 2014, the original Japanese version of the My Hero Academia manga was published in the well-known magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump, the same magazine where other iconic series like Dragon Ball, One Piece and Demon Slayer were also originally published. The manga's run lasted 41 volumes across 10 years, from 2014 to the summer of 2014. The English translation is licensed by Viz Media, which publishes the series both digitally and physically.
The anime adaptation of My Hero Academia debuted in 2016 and, as of this writing, is still ongoing but approaching the end of the manga's original storyline. At the start of the anime's most recent season, there were about 100 chapters of the manga left to adapt. The My Hero Academia anime series is streaming in its entirety on Crunchyroll. In certain international regions, the series is also available on Netflix and Hulu, though not as many recent seasons are available on these platforms.
Crunchyroll describes the My Hero Academia anime like this:
"Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his life—a lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That’s right, in a world where eighty percent of the population has some kind of super-powered “quirk,” Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal. But that’s not enough to stop him from enrolling in one of the world’s most prestigious hero academies."Crunchyroll
The My Hero Academia anime also has four spin-off movies as of this writing. These movies are standalone stories that feature the same cast and crew of the anime series, but do not tie in directly to the anime's main storyline. The most recent of these movies, My Hero Academia You're Next was released in Japan in August 2024 and dubbed for English-speaking audiences for a release in North America and the UK in October 2024. You're Next is not yet available for streaming, but the other movies in the series can be watched on Crunchyroll or Netflix depending on international region.
