We here on the Anime Away team previously reported on a possible hiatus of the One Piece manga delaying the initial November 17 publication of chapter 1132. After the release date was delayed and restored several times, we now have official confirmation that One Piece is indeed going on a two-week hiatus as of November 17.
As reported by Screen Rant, Weekly Shōnen Jump, the magazine that serializes new chapters of One Piece has confirmed via an official statement in the latest issue that the manga will be going hiatus, citing unexpected health issues for the manga's creator Eiichiro Oda. As of this writing, the next chapter of One Piece is scheduled to be released in the issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump going on sale December 2.
The Anime Away team wishes Mr. Oda a speedy recovery.
The statement from Weekly Shōnen Jump has been translated into English by One Piece fan account Pew on X (formerly Twitter) and have be read in full below:
Despite the delays, One Piece fans still have a lot to look forward to
This latest hiatus follows an earlier hiatus back in October and coincides with a hiatus of the One Piece anime series until April 2025 that was also announced in October. Even after this recent spate of hiatuses and delays, the One Piece production teams have announced enough plans for the future that there's no reason for One Piece fans to stop being optimistic about what's ahead for the franchise.
Below is a list of the upcoming One Piece media that has recently been announced:
• While the anime is on hiatus, a re-cut version of the Fishman Island Arc, One Piece's first story arc, will be aired. Titled One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga, this re-cut story arc will be streamed for international viewers on Crunchyroll.
• A remake of the One Piece anime was announced at the end of 2023. This new anime series is titled The One Piece and is being produced as a collaboration between WIT Studtio (Spy x Family), Shueisha (owner of Weekly Shōnen Jump) Toei Animation (producer of the first One Piece anime series and other iconic anime like Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon) and Netflix. A release date has not yet been announced, but Netflix confirms that the series has entered production.
• The second season of the Netflix Original One Piece live-action adaptation is also currently in production, with filming confirmed to be well underway as of fall 2024.
While One Piece fans wait for the current manga and anime hiatuses to end and for the upcoming entries in the franchise to debut, there are plenty of options for fans wanting to catch up or revisit the iconic series. The entirety of the anime's 1000+ episodes are currently streaming on both Crunchyroll and Netflix. Netflix is also the streaming home of the live-action adaptation. Additionally, the One Piece manga can be read via the Manga Plus and Viz Media apps.
The Anime Away team is continuing to follow the situation and we'll be here to report on any additional changes to One Piece's publication schedule, so be sure to keep checking back with us for all the latest.
